The five body shapes
Body shapes are a styling guide, not a rule. Wear what makes you feel good. Many people sit between two shapes, and your shape can change over time.
How to measure
- Stand straight with your feet together and wear light clothing or underwear.
- Use a soft tape measure and keep it level around your body, snug but not digging in.
- Bust: across the fullest part of your chest, with the tape straight across your back.
- Waist: at the narrowest point, usually just above your belly button.
- Hips: around the widest part of your hips and seat, about 8 inches (20 cm) below your waist.
Questions
How does the calculator decide my shape?
It compares your bust, waist and hip measurements. Bust and hips within 5% of each other with a defined waist gives hourglass. Wider hips gives pear, wider bust gives inverted triangle, a waist close to both gives apple, and similar measurements with little waist definition gives rectangle.
Does body shape depend on size?
No. Every shape exists in every size, from petite to plus. The shape describes proportion, not weight, so the tips here work whether you shop straight, mid or plus size.
What if I fall between two shapes?
That is very common. Try the tips for both shapes and keep whatever feels best. Fit and comfort always matter more than a label.
Are my measurements stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
