Tips for getting the right fit
- Measure first. Bust, waist and hips tell you more than the number on the label. Use the measurement tab above.
- Between sizes? Size up for fitted and bodycon styles, and size down for relaxed or wrap dresses. A tailor can take in a dress easily but can rarely let it out.
- Check the fabric. Stretch knits are forgiving, while woven fabrics with no stretch need more precise sizing.
- Look at the dress, not just you. Many brands list the garment’s own measurements, which is the most accurate way to compare.
- Shopping internationally? Convert the size, then check reviews for comments like “runs small” before you order.
Questions
Why does my size change between brands?
Brands use their own fit models and “vanity sizing”, so the same number can mean different measurements. That is why a size 8 in one store can be a 10 in another.
What is a US size 8 in UK, EU and Australian sizes?
A US 8 is a UK 12, an EU 40, a French 42, an Italian 46, an Australian 12 and a Japanese 11.
How do plus sizes convert?
The converter covers US 0 to 24. Plus sizes usually start at US 14W or 16 and use the same numbers. Check each brand’s guide, as plus fits vary even more.
Are my measurements saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored.
