How to measure your foot

  1. Place a sheet of paper against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe, which is not always the big toe.
  3. Measure from the edge of the paper to the mark in centimeters or inches.
  4. Measure both feet and use the larger one. Most people have one foot slightly bigger.
  5. Measure in the evening, when your feet are at their largest.

Tips for a better fit

  • Between sizes? Choose the larger size, or go up half a size for pointed toes and heels.
  • Mind the width. If shoes pinch at the sides, try a wide fit instead of a bigger size.
  • Check the material. Leather and suede stretch with wear, while synthetic materials usually don’t.
  • Wear the right socks. Try boots and sneakers with the socks you’ll wear them with.
  • Buying online? Read reviews for “runs small” or “runs large” and check the return policy.
